An Update to My Faith Crisis
Recently I watched this video by MindShift about Abraham and the sacrifice he was willing to make unto God. Brandon points out how unbelievably insane Abraham’s commitment to this sacrifice is. And I would have to agree.
It’s funny, because when I was a believer, Abraham’s story was one of the ultimate sacrifice and how amazing it was to see just how obedient this man was into God that he was willing to go through with killing his own son. It was a story to be in awe over. Looking at it from this new perspective, I must admit that the story is extremely disturbing. The Old Testament God has always confused me even when I was a full time missionary. These depictions of the creator of the universe that contradict what so many people claim to be loving and understanding just doesn’t sit well with me at all anymore.
As a father, I could never imagine holding a knife over my son with the intent of murdering him under the command of a so called God. It’s not the kind of God I wish to follow if that is who he is.
